Foods to Avoid
Eating With Braces
Though dental braces are cemented onto your teeth, it is important to avoid certain foods that can loosen wires and brackets. The goal of orthodontic treatment is to reshape your smile in the quickest and most efficient way possible. Eating some of the following foods can loosen your brackets, bands and wires. You may not even notice the problem for several days, which can cause delays in your orthodontic treatment.
While wearing braces, we suggest you avoid:
Sticky Foods:
- Caramels
- Gum
- Licorice
- Starburst
- Sugar Daddies
- Toffee
- Tootsie Rolls
Hard Foods:
- Apples and Carrots (unless cut into small pieces)
- Bagels
- Chips
- Corn on the Cob
- French Bread Crust/Rolls
- Hard Taco Shells
- Ice
- Jolly Ranchers
- Nuts
- Pizza Crust
- Uncooked Carrots (unless cut)
Minimalize Sugary Foods Like:
- Cake
- Candy
- Cookies
- Ice Cream
- Pie
Limit To Once A Day:
- Gatorade
- Kool-Aid
- Soda
- Sugary Drinks
- Sweetened Tea
It is important to regularly check your braces for bent or loose wires and brackets.
